Hoppy became popular as a beer alternative due to beer being to expensive for regular people at the time Hoppy was first produced. A popular way to enjoy Hoppy is to mix with Shochu (焼酎) a distilled beverage native to Japan which is most commonly distilled from barley, sweet potatoes, or rice.
